Internship and Practicum Placement Opportunities

The HSI Internship and Practicum Placement program provides clinical experiences and training for students in social service related disciplines.

Clinical Practicum

Clinical practicum experience involves Master’s level students providing psychological servicesunder the supervision of clinicians. MA students complete 700 hours over 9-12months. At least half of the hours must be indirect client contact.

Community Service Practicum

This is a non-clinical practicum designed to give students an overview of social issues. This practicum is for 1st year graduate students. Students complete 180-200 hours over the course of 6 months. Students engagein non-clinical work such as program development, evaluations, research, providing support for fundraising, lobbying, curriculum development and community awareness.

Addictions Studies – CADC

CADC students can come from multiple schools but the requirements are the same since CADC licensure is determined by the state not the school. A degree is not required for a student to pursue a CADC license. Student’s activities should focus 12 core functions outlined by IAODAPCA.

Clerkship

Clerkship students have a data management role and the option of a placement in a community service agency.

Community Rotation

Community Rotation students are Doctoral student clinical externs who are given the opportunity to receive “hands on” clinical experience in a community-based setting. However, their primary placement is clinic-based through UIC.

Administrative Internship

Administrative Interns manage agency projects in the Human Resources, Non-profit Management or Technology departments.

Work study/ Cooperative Education Placement

The university and HSI share the cost of employing students in part time or full time positions. Undergraduate students work as residential trainers/managers for HSI. They have the same role as regular employees. The school’s funding for this program comes from the state. We will place students from Northeastern University and Harold Washington College under this arrangement.
